Topic 1 of 6
Reading Comprehension
How it’s taught in school
Students develop comprehension skills by exploring a variety of texts, including fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. They practise summarising, inferring meaning, comparing different texts, and identifying themes.
Try it at home
- Choose a book to read together and discuss the main ideas and details after each chapter.
- Ask questions about characters' motivations and make predictions about what might happen next in the story.
- Compare characters, themes, or settings between different stories or genres, discussing similarities and differences.
