Topic 1 of 5
Living Things and Their Habitats
How it’s taught in school
Students study differences in the life cycles of mammals, amphibians, insects, and birds, and learn about reproduction processes in plants and animals.
Try it at home
- Observe local plants and animals over time to understand their life cycles.
- Research and compare life cycles of animals in different habitats (e.g., rainforest, desert).
- Grow a new plant from a cutting (mint or a spider plant work well) or a sprouting potato to see asexual reproduction, where a new plant grows from part of just one parent.
