Topic 1 of 8
Number and Place Value
How it’s taught in school
Year 6 students learn to read, write, and compare numbers up to 10 million, and to round whole numbers accurately. They also work with negative numbers in real-world contexts, understanding and calculating intervals across zero.
Try it at home
- Have your child read and write numbers up to 10 million, focusing on identifying each digit's place value.
- Practise rounding large numbers by setting challenges, such as rounding to the nearest thousand or million.
- Use real-life examples of temperatures or elevations to explain negative numbers and intervals across zero.
